The T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre of the Institute of Chinese Studies has emphasised both traditional and modern aspects of Chinese linguistics, combined theory with practice, and continuously contributed to the study of the Chinese language. The Centre is focusing on comparative linguistics and Chinese dialectical grammar under a comparative approach. In addition, the Centre places significant emphasis on the practical applications of linguistics, particularly in promoting the standard language, and integrating theoretical research with language teaching and learning in academic endeavors.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Chinese Language, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related discipline; (ii) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iii) good computer knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Chinese word-processing; (iv) hands-on knowledge of webpage design; (v) good communication and interpersonal skills; (vi) the ability to work independently and as a team member; and (vii) an energetic and self-motivated work attitude. Experience in editing publications is preferred.
The appointee will be assigned to the Centre. He/She will be responsible for (a) assisting in research projects; (b) writing proposals, budgets, and reports, and disseminating results in good English and Chinese; (c) performing general liaison and administrative work in the Centre, including managing communications between the Centre and external organisations and institutions; (d) assisting in organising academic activities, such as workshops and conferences; (e) assisting in editing and typesetting journals; and (f) performing other tasks as assigned by the Director.
Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible.
