The Department of Finance at CUHK Business School now invites application for the position of Research Associate.
The Department of Finance has developed a strong reputation in teaching and research, and is widely recognised as one of Asia’s leading finance research centers. It is placed under the Business School, which has also received international acclaim in terms of rankings. The Department has been expanding in recent years and is on upward trajectory in research productivity, with many faculty members successfully publishing in Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, among others. The CUHK is currently ranked no. 13 globally and no. 1 in the Asia-Pacific region in the Arizona State University (ASU) World Finance Department Research Ranking, based on publications in the top four Finance journals in 2018-2022.
The Finance for Society Research Centre is housed within the Department of Finance at CUHK Business School. Serving as a pivotal platform, the Centre facilitates connections between academic researchers and industry practitioners, fostering interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach initiatives geared towards harnessing finance for societal advancement. Its research scope spans diverse facets of finance, such as quantitative trading, sustainable finance, behavioral finance, and fintech innovations.
Applicants should have (i) a Doctoral degree, preferably in Finance, Economics or Business; (ii) solid skills of data analysis and policy research; (iii) an excellent command of both spoken and written English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua); (iv) good interpersonal skills and the capability to communicate effectively with people of diverse background; (v) a self-motivated, collaborative work attitude with excellent organisation skills; and (vi) a strong sense of ownership, and the capability to master various tasks independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Post-graduate experience is not a must but would be considered an additional asset.
Reporting to the Department Chairperson, the appointee will be responsible for (a) providing research support to both the Department and the “Finance for Society Research Centre” within the Department; (b) assisting in organising activities for the Department and the research centre; (c) offering administrative support to both the Department and the research centre; (d) liaising and coordinating with internal and external parties for centre administration and management; and (e) performing other duties as assigned.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for two years, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
