The Department of Surgery is looking for a Research Assistant to work with Dr. Shannon Chan and Dr. Zheng Li and their research teams on the project - 'The Development of an Intelligent System for Real-time Automated Anatomical Recognition System During Endoscopic Ultrasound'.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines; (ii) basic programming skill, particularly in Python, OpenCV and PyTorch; (iii) hands-on experience with the development process of a deep learning framework, including data preprocessing and annotation, deep neural network implementation, result evaluation (e.g. use of evaluation metrics / image visualization) etc.; and (iv) the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Knowledge on basic human anatomy is preferred but not essential.
The appointee will assist in (a) image data preprocessing and labelling; (b) exploration and implementation of various deep learning methods / model architectures; and (c) results evaluation for the development of an intelligent, real-time, and accurate anatomical recognition system.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to one year, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
