The Gerald Choa Neuroscience Institute (GCNI) and The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join the multidisciplinary neuroscience research team of Prof. Hovy Wong. Broadly speaking, the laboratory focuses on RNA regulation of brain circuit formation, maintenance, and plasticity in health and disease (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=HhefAuQAAAAJ&hl=en). Cutting-edge topics and methods include local mRNA translation, presynaptic/axon dynamics, synaptic plasticity, 2-photon optogenetics/imaging/microsurgery and quadruple whole-cell recordings. Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline and prior research experience; (ii) excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills; and (iii) proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese. Applicants with a good command of molecular biology, neuroscience, electrophysiology and/or microscopy optics are particularly a great asset to the team.
Duties include (a) providing research support such as making solutions, managing animal colony and maintaining laboratory organisation; (b) ordering reagents and maintaining equipment; (c) managing laboratory’s budget account; (d) assisting project report and research document preparation, and (e) performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or his delegate(s).
