The Institute of Space and Earth Information Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to a research project focused on mapping permafrost thaw using remote sensing data and estimating the associated carbon release.
Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Remote Sensing, Geodesy and Surveying, Geophysics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline; (ii) basic knowledge and skill in remote sensing imagery and Linux environment; (iii) good communication skills in written and spoken English; and (iv) a self-motivated work attitude.
Duties include (a) processing remote sensing data related to the project mentioned above; (b) collecting carbon data from published data or literature; (c) analysing the data using statistics and machine learning; and (d) helping develop deep-learning-based algorithms for computer vision tasks involving remote sensing imagery, with a particular focus on detecting tiny objects in large-scale imagery.
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
